Doing A Travel Assignment in Havre Montana?

Is there anyone that can give me any information on Montana especially the Havre Montana area. I am going there on a nursing travel assignment. Just wondering what to expect.

By the way, the high school teams are called the "blue ponys" – When I was a kid I was told that it was becasue it got so cold in Havre that the horses turned blue. I don’t know if that’s the real reason though – because I’ve never been there in the winter.

Does anybody have suggestions for places to visit in Montana?

I’d like to take a road trip from California to Montana and I’m wondering what places I should be sure to visit. I’m looking for peace and quiet and serenity. Is it possible to stay on a ranch somewhere and ride horses? Any good hiking? Rafting? Camping? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Glacier National Park is the best place to visit…they have over 700 miles of maintained hiking trails that range from very easy to very strenuous…great for beginners and experts alike.

The NPS website at http://www.nps.gov/glac/ should be able to provide you with lots of information about hiking, biking, rafting, camping, horseback riding, boating, fishing, and bus tours.

If you are looking for peace and quiet, I would recommend visiting in June or September, as the majority of the Park’s 2 million annual visitors come in July and August.

Blinkered ? – Riding horses on roads .

In Britain we call them ‘blinkers’ not blinders ; that is, those eye patches that stop a horse seeing things on either side and behind him that may frighten him and which have given rise to the saying ‘to have a blinkered view’ which means, to see only what you want to see and to refuse to see the whole picture and so learn the truth . There are certain people in the world who have such a blindness that they think horses belong only in the country and should be banned from cities. My argument against this is two fold : firstly that the ‘country’ they speak of no longer exists in the way people think and that (unless they live in the Australian out-back or Montana or something ) horse riders have no choice but to run the gauntlet with traffic . My second point is that day by day the cities and towns swallow up the country-side and far from banning horses and other animals from them, city planners should be forced to include animals and make provision for them and make towns and cities pleasant hospitable places for animals to co-exist with humans, before our whole planet is engulfed in concrete and pigeon . We shouldn’t forget that humans are also animals and what is bad for animals is bad for us also. Horses and dogs have been our partners in evolution for millenia ; without them we would NOT have gotten this far . They are not relics of a distant past,they are our future ; like it or not , when the oil runs out, you’ll be glad you have a horse !
