Is it necessary to fly fish for trout out in Montana, or would casting spinners aslo be effective?

November 30th, 2009 . by AB Kinney

i have used spinners, artificial worms and anything else you can think of to catch fish in Montana. just check the rules before you fish. quite a few streams are artificial lure only.

Help writing an essay on tepees? (10 pts. to best answer!)?

November 30th, 2009 . by AB Kinney

I have to write a 3 page essay on tepees – is that how you spell it? – and I’m not sure where to put stuff. Cover page – done. That’s the easiest. But the thesis and bibliography? Do you think that is included in the 3 pages? And does the thesis have it’s own page?

I will give 10 pts. to whoever answers all of my questions and/or whoever best answers them!

The Plains Indians’ summer home was the Tepee and it has many other names. They were portable, easily set up and taken down and only used on the trail. The rest of the year, during the winter months, the members of the different tribes lived in permanent housing at the edge of the Great Plains. Please check out the following links and you will be off to a good start on your essay. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tipi, http://www.coloradoyurt.com/tipis/tipi_101/tipi_history/index.php, http://www.foreverMontana.com/history.htm, http://www.manataka.org/page186.html, and http://www.shelterpub.com/_shelter/www_teepee.html. The thesis statement is usually the first statement in the opening paragraph, it does not have its own page. The bibliography on this particular topic is fairly easy to do but it depends on your teacher as to what format. If you are in high or middle school then you can use the MLA format. Otherwise check with your teacher and see if they prefer APA, Chicago (CM), MLA or etc.

Do American Indians look different today then before the arrival of immigrants?

November 30th, 2009 . by AB Kinney

Is there a particular look that could be found today in American Indians that gives some sort of difference between themselves and Mediterranean’s, middle easterners, and northern Europeans?

What Native American tribes would have counted coup?

November 30th, 2009 . by AB Kinney

I am doing a project for my Hispanic and Native American Studies class, where we have to pick a tribe and make something from that tribe. I’m either making an Inuit totem pole, or a coup stick and war bonnet, but they need to be from specific tribes, and all my research on coup sticks just says "plains indians". I need to know a specific tribe so I can make an accurate war bonnet.

Thanks in advance!! :D

Which entrance to Yellowstone National Park is best to visit the Old Faithful geyser?

November 30th, 2009 . by AB Kinney

Which entrance to yellowstone national park is best if one wanted to visit the Old Faithful geyser? Separate question: which entrance would be best to enter the park by (still to visit the geyser) if we were traveling there from Boulder, Colorado?

Please give as much detail as possible. I’m pretty terrible with geography. Thanks so much for your help!

The answer to both of your questions is the south entrance by way of Grand Teton National Park. The south entrance is the shortest route between Boulder and Old Faithful. If your geography is as bad as you say it is you should get yourself a map so you can plot your route. You can also use mapquest.com to find your way.

I hope you plan to spend a few days in Yellowstone because Old Faithful is just one of many thermal features in the park. Lower Yellowstone Falls and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone are also must see. For planning purposes I recommend you spend at least 3 full days in the park to see the highlights. Be sure to get out of your car and into your walking shoes because there are miles of boardwalk and paved trails in the Upper, Midway and Lower geyser basins not to mention West Thumb geyser basin, Norris geyser basin and Mammoth Hot Springs. Be sure to stop at Canyon Village to see the Visitor Center and the displays there.

If you can’t get accommodations in the park or decide to stay outside the park you should consider the town of West Yellowstone located at the west entrance to the park. All things considered it’s the most centrally located accommodations outside of the park. I spent 4 nights in West Yellowstone last summer and 3 full days exploring the park. I would have liked to spend more time there but since it was my third visit and I also wanted to do some hiking in Glacier and Banff I limited my visit to 3 days. If you stay in West Yellowstone be sure to check out the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center located about a block south of the park entrance. Grizzlies and wolves are two animals that you are not likely to see in the park.

Whatever you decide to do, have a great time.

Yellowstone River Help?

November 29th, 2009 . by AB Kinney

I need to find out how many dams the yellowstone river has. I also need to find out what kind of problems the yellowstone river has and solutions to saving the river. Its for a school project help please!
Zero. “The Yellowstone River has no dams to halt its rushing water, although much blood was shed fighting against the Corps of Engineers’ Allen Spur Dam, a 660 foot high concrete arch dam 3 1/2 miles above Livingston, that would have backed water to the Yellowstone Park Boundary above Gardiner. We can thank Jim Posewitz et al. for defeating this illogical project and allowing the river to do what it does best: build islands for wildlife, create channels and pools for fish and deliver water to the dry prairies below. The Montana visitor would do well to follow the Yellowstone River up from its mouth at Fort Union 600 miles up to the Yellowstone Park boundary. It is one of earth’s wonders and a gift from nature. Also it is our responsibility to keep it safe for future generations.” Edit: A link is not an answer, and I Googled it myself. That’s better than someone else who used the same source I did. Of course he may have discovered that using a different source gets him erroneous information sometimes. I wonder if he plagiarized a second source as well. “He noted the Yellowstone River is the largest undammed river in the United States.” http://www.billingsgazette.net/articles/2007/12/06/news/state/37-schweitzer.txt

How much would it cost to travel from Montana to Uruguay?

November 29th, 2009 . by AB Kinney

I see $1511 with Delta in July (HLN to MVD stay about 1 week). You might do better with a consolidator. Try http://www.bookingbuddy.com to check published and unpublished (aka "consolidator") airfares for your travel dates to see if you can do better than $1511.

I have one day to spend in Grand Teton National Park. What should I do?

November 29th, 2009 . by AB Kinney

I’ll be staying at Yellowstone for 5 days in August and have one day planned for Teton but I am unsure what to see. Any thoughts or suggestions?

If I had just one day to spend, I would go to Jenny Lake, take the shuttle across the lake and hike up Cascade Canyon. This is the best hike in the whole Yellowstone area. You can make it as long or short as you like it. There is so much to see all along the way. If you’re not into hiking, at least take the shuttle over and back. Or you could rent a canoe and spend time on the lake. The water is crystal clear and you can see some huge boulders below the surface.

How many people on average visit Old Faithful Geyser in Yellowstone National Park per day?

November 29th, 2009 . by AB Kinney

Only has to be approximate

The NPS may keep track of how many visitors per day visit the Old Faithful area (Upper Geyser Basin) but I have never seen any statistics to indicate that they do. However, I did find an article that was published on April 20, 2006 in the Yellowstone Park News that said nearly 10,000 visitors per day visit the Old Faithful area. I assume this is a summer average and not an annual average.
